| One in eight of our daughters, sisters, wives, mothers, and grandmothers will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.
The first sign of breast cancer usually shows up on a woman’s mammogram before it can be felt or any other symptoms are present. Updating Halifax Regional’s Imaging Center with the best technology, environment, and training will provide the women of our region with the safest, quickest, and most accurate service.
Over the last five years the number of breast cancer cases detected in our area has lagged behind the state average, and the mortality rate has increased by 17%. A community facility offering digital mammography will provide the essential service that will reverse this local trend.

Construction is underway on an exciting outpatient services project at Halifax Regional.
Construction workers expand parking lot next to Emergency Care Center.
This high-impact $6.5 million investment in improving outpatient services to the community is one of our largest investments in the past 20 years. It’s an exciting renovation, expansion, and modernization of our outpatient services, and will serve our community well. Improving outpatient surgery services will be one of our focuses as we undertake this much-needed community project.
- The entire surgical suite will be expanded to reduce patient waiting time
- A new room will be built for surgeons to meet privately with families of patients
- The recovery area will be enlarged so that more patients can be comfortably accommodated after surgery
- An expanded registration area will offer patients more privacy
- Surgeons and our staff will have more space to prepare for surgery and our staff will have more room for equipment and supplies
- For your convenience, more than 50 new parking spaces will be added to the lot near the Emergency Care Center and Outpatient Services Entrance
